Healthy and Safe Sexual Relationships

As a parent, you want to know that your child is having protected, consensual, enjoyable sex as well as being respected and treated well in a relationship.

Contraception

Basic forms of contraception are covered in schools but having conversations with your child about what is out there, what you used, and what might work for them will help them understand how to be safe when having sexual encounters.

Check out the Contraception page to get a conversation started.

Here’s a good NHS link that goes into more detail and stats around different contraceptives.

What healthy looks like

In new relationships, it can be hard for individuals to know what is right or wrong or what makes them feel uncomfortable.

Expectations and boundaries should be set and laid out when in a new relationship and parents should help young adults be the best they can be in a relationship with someone and help them know when they aren’t being treated correctly.

Check out our Healthy Relationships page for more info on this.

Female Pleasure

In a male dominated world, teaching young women that their pleasure matters just as much as a man’s will make them feel empowered and have more self-respect.

It’s a taboo topic but it really shouldn’t be. Your daughters should be getting the most out of sex and enjoying it and your sons should be treating female pleasure as equal to their own.
