This is an essential topic in schools as it teaches young women (and young men) that pleasure for both parties is equally important in sex. This topic acknowledges that young people are having sex for enjoyment and pleasure and it doesn’t shame them for it. It’s going to be happening no matter what.
This topic will help young women embrace their sexuality and know how to say no but also how to say yes.
Things all young adults should know:
- 80% of women can’t orgasm from penetrative sex alone. The clitoris plays a massive part in female pleasure.
- It is perfectly normal and natural for a female to masturbate, just like a male.
- Sex shouldn’t / doesn’t have to hurt for the female. Pain usually comes from a tear in the vaginal wall due to lack of lubrication and can easily be avoided with store-bought lube.
- There is NOTHING wrong with a female having many sexual partners. The societal norm that men can sleep around but women shouldn’t is incredibly out dated.
- Faking orgasms can have a lasting, damaging effect on your body.
- Going into sex before the female body is fully ready can create trauma in the body which can present itself as numbness or pain.
Essential reading:
A guide to feminist reading can be found here.
We recommend using excerpts from the below books in lessons around female pleasure.
- Hollie McNish – Plum. This is a perfect book to begin conversations around female pleasure. You can pick and choose poems to talk to your students / children about. The poems address life as a young adults and helps answer questions around sex, student jobs, and school. A great read and has the Generation Feminist stamp of approval.
- Come as you are – Emily Nagoski. This book is quite graphic in places but an inspiring and empowering read. Women aged 18 and over should read the whole book but extracts from it can be incredibly powerful if used in lessons around female pleasure.
